  13. Hardcore ruleset: later, no date yet

    Official

    No date announced yet

    Details

Hardcore arrives some time after launch. Blizzard's roadmap lists it under "Winter", after the raids, with no date. It is a closed world of its own, and a Hardcore character that dies can move to another ruleset, PvP included.

First-week tasks

  • Pick the same region and ruleset as your friends before you create a character. Players in different regions cannot play together at launch; groups, guilds and mail only work inside one ruleset; and you cannot move a character to another ruleset later. On the PvP ruleset, your account can only have characters of one faction. Official
  • Set Preferred Online Language (Esc, Options, System, Languages and Social) before you look for groups. It helps match you with players who share that language, covers your whole account and has a 24-hour cooldown. Official
  • Learn Cooking, First Aid and Fishing early: they do not use your two primary profession slots. Cooking turns your cooking fire into a campfire, and sitting or crafting at a camp for 1 minute gives its camp buffs. Official
  • Visit your class trainer as you level and buy each new spell rank, then put it on your action bars yourself: since the launch notes, new spells no longer go there by themselves. Official
  • When players compete for the same monsters, form a group. Only the first player or group to hit a monster gets the kill credit, and everyone in the group shares it if they are close by. Community
  • Log out in an inn or a capital city. Rested XP builds there while you are offline, and it doubles the XP from kills until it runs out. Community
  • Never buy gold or accept gold you cannot explain. Buyers and receivers risk gold removal, suspension or account closure, and a suspected account loses trade, mail, guild bank and Auction House while it is checked. Official
  • Install only addon files made for Forever. Addon files made for Classic Era or Anniversary do not load in Forever. Community
Not confirmed yet (8)
  • Who can create characters when the reservation opens: Blizzard's reservation article says pack owners only, while the end-of-beta post says character creation opens on 27 Oct, "allowing everyone plenty of time" to choose. Check when your region opens. Conflict
  • Launch hour: one moment in every region. Blizzard's launch article gives 3:00 p.m. PST on 4 Nov, which is 23:00 UTC, 00:00 CET and 08:00 in Korea on 5 Nov. Official
  • Weekly reset in the Americas & Oceania (Tuesday 15:00 UTC) and in Europe (Wednesday 04:00 UTC): both times come from the game files (build 1.60.1.70245), not from Blizzard. One beta build moved them to 16:00 and 07:00 UTC and a later one moved them back, and Forever Codex's Today page still shows the older values. Blizzard has only said the raids are planned to reset weekly. Datamined
  • Weekly reset in Korea and Taiwan: not known yet. Blizzard has not announced it, and the reads of the game files we know of only give the Americas & Oceania and Europe, so this card shows no reset for these two regions yet. Unverified
  • Call to Arms start: the client calendar starts each bonus week on Tuesday at 08:00 realm time (ForeverDB, build 1.60.1.70532), and Blizzard has not said which time zone each region's realm time uses. Forever Codex reads the hour as your region's weekly reset instead, which is not on a Tuesday in every region (Wednesday in Europe, by the game files). So the bonus may switch on Tuesday or on your region's reset day. We check it in launch week. Conflict
  • Blizzard's in-game calendar: the Ultimate Calendar addon says it is switched off in Forever, but Forever's interface code still ships the calendar with its own filters for battleground weeks, raid resets and lockouts. We check at launch whether it opens. Conflict
  • Raid unlock: Blizzard gives 9 Dec on its English, European and Latin American sites and 10 Dec on its Korean and Taiwan sites, with no hour anywhere. Whether all regions unlock at one moment or each at its own weekly reset is not known. Official
  • PvP Season 1: Blizzard has not said when it starts. If it starts in launch week, the weekly Rank Point cap (2,700 in week 1 in the game files) would allow rank 14 from about 5 or 6 Jan 2027, depending on your region's reset day. If it starts with the raids, rank 14 would open about 9 or 10 Feb 2027. The cap table appears here once Blizzard confirms the start. Estimate

Not confirmed by Blizzard. Season total of Rank Points allowed by the end of each week of a PvP season, from the game files (Forever Codex, build 1.60.1.70245; may change at launch). Points never decay, and rank 14 needs 24,750, so week 10 at the earliest. Blizzard confirms a weekly cap but has not given these numbers or the Season 1 start, so the weeks are not tied to dates yet.
